A sleek stellar jay carved, by Rochelle Quam, from a dark blue dumortierite stone. This jays crest is tucked down as it holds a relaxed position. Dumortierite is said to help in relaxation. The bird fits perfectly in hand and is weighty with gentle curves like small finger holds. In her typical style, Rochelle has kept the matte look of the natural stone and incised small lines along the body for feathered texture. A band of jet paste around the neck gives the stellar jay familiar markings. Jays are part of the corvid family; smart, confident and chatty. This jay measures about 3 1/2" long, 1" wide by 1 1/4" tall.
