Bountiful Grandmother & Corn Maiden

Corn-Maiden and Grandmother carvings by Sandra Quandelacy are often reversible. Perhaps this iridescent black lip shell piece depicts Grandmother carrying a bountiful harvest back to the Pueblo, while Corn Maiden gazes down at the garden, talking to her crops with an empty basket, encouraging them to grow. Facial features are etched and filled with jet paste, as is the multi-storied Pueblo and hovering Dragonflies. Crushed turquoise which can represent water is seen in this roughly 2 7/8" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 1 1/2" deep exquisite work. The measurements include the base from dolomite.
