Sodalite is a sodium-rich mineral that was formally identified in the 19th century however archeological evidence reveals the ancient Indigenous Caral-Supe civilization in Peru had already been utilizing sodalite in their traditional doings, offerings and for trade. Sodalite is said to calm the nervous system and promote confidence. Lynn Quam's smoothly sculpted Bison (or buffalo) is from a lovely sodalite specimen with gorgeous inclusions two of which resemble tiny flower buds. Gentle eyes and powerful horns are from turquoise. About 3 1/4" long, 1 1/8" wide and 2" tall.
