Fish Rock Frog
Marvelita Phillips makes wonderful and collectible fetish necklaces. She's also an artist who carves single fetish animals. Her father was noted carver and jeweler Leonard Halate (d) who started carving in the 1940's. Her brother is Herbert Halate and her son is Brandon Phillips. At about 1 1/2" long, 1 1/4" wide and 5/8" tall, a piece of lovely fish rock serpentine has been smoothly sculpted into a great Frog. Turquoise inlays represent eyes and spots on this amphibian who is an important sign of water in Zuni Pueblo tradition.
