Hummingbird Tradition
In Aztec tradition the Hummingbird represents the powerful sun and war god Huitzilopochtli who was conceived after his mother caught hummingbird feathers falling from the sky. These falling feathers were the soul of a warrior. Brandon Phillips has carved a wonderful hummingbird from earthy picture jasper and rich pipestone. Focused eyes are from turquoise inlays while a wonderful pointy beak is from iridescent mother-of-pearl. About 2 5/8" tall, 5/8" wide and 1 3/8" deep.
