At just 8 years old and under the supervision of family like noted carver Herbert Halate, artist Justin Red Elk's first carvings were from gravel rocks using a knife to carefully shape his pieces. These days his signature works are sweet otters and spirited Hummingbirds. He shared that by observing hummingbirds coming to the window and flying around, it inspired the carving of them. Then he saw amazing otters on Animal Planet and well the rest is history, lucky for all of us. Lovingly sculpted from fish rock serpentine, alabaster and pipestone, Justin's delightful otter clan together measures approximately 3 1/4" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1" tall. Soulful eyes are accented with jet paste.
