Marvelita Phillips' father was noted Zuni Pueblo carver and jeweler Leonard Halate (d) who started carving in the 1940's. Her brother is carving great Herbert Halate. Son Brandon Phillips is an active and wonderful artist as well. Whenever we get an opportunity to share a fetish necklace by Marvelita, we're excited. Each of the 20 turquoise-eyed feathered friends, perhaps smart Ravens, discerning crows or bright jays on this approximately 30" long single strand fetish necklace, are uniquely charming. They are carved from jet and average approximately 1 1/8" long. Four spunky crested jaybirds take center stage, a sweet touch. The individual red coral beads are beautifully matched.
