Vince Chavez carved this exquisite camel from a special travertine stone found only in Zuni. Known as the ships of the desert the US Army experimented with using camels in the American Southwest mid-19th-century. Maybe this one was lost on Zuni Pueblo land. Camels teach us about survival during trying times. With a sweet face and eyes of inlaid turquoise this ship of the desert is about 3 1/4" long, 1 1/2" wide, and 2 1/2" tall.
