Wild Canine Guide
Wild canines are guides and keepers of traditions for many Indigenous cultures. Bernard Laiwakete's beneficial bushytail (Wolf, Coyote or Fox) has been carved from a fascinating orthoceras to a dimension of about 2 7/8" long, 3/8" wide and 3/4" tall. A heartline or breath path and watchful vision is from colorful turquoise inlaid to the carving from an orthoceras, a mollusk that lived in ancient Ordovician oceans millions of years ago. Its aragonite shell fossilized into a white-like calcite, which now is an attractive contrast to the dark limestone it hardened in.
